So this is Camille posting for Keith, who is a little worn out from mowing the lawn....we let it go a little long so it was a bit of a challenge tonight (despite the new self-propelling mower). However, big news on the upstairs....framing has begun! The wall to the master bedroom is up making the layout in the drawings a little closer to reality. Because the roof is still fairly sloped in area of the master bedroom, and because we've only ever seen it as a gigantic single room, the Master bedroom almost seems a little small.

Standing where the old master bathroom used to be, and looking back at what will be the entrance to the new master bedroom. |
|
The sink and toilet of the master bath will eventually be in this area. |
|
This is the new hallway between the master bedroom and the kids' rooms. |
A lot of work has also been done on the back portion of the house; namely the installation of a main support beam along the back of the house that will support the reconstructed roof. New joists have been sistered with the old joists in the main room off the kitchen in the original part of the house. Its pretty reassuring to see how solid this house is going to be after seeing it stripped down to nothing.

A new beam in place in the back half of the house. |
|
Joists connected to new beam with metal hangers. |
|
Joists in the ceiling of the family room area, sistered to existing joists and connected to that giant beam. This is one sturdy looking ceiling. |
Finally, and I don't want to spoil anything, but rumor has it that the turret is going to come down on Saturday. Unfortunately, it won't be a big dramatic removal like
this, but will be cut out in pieces from the inside. Stay tuned!!
